Laura's 150e verjaardag

Volgend jaar, op 7-2-2017 is het 150 jaar geleden dat Laura Ingalls werd geboren. Dit gaat in Sioux Falls/South Dakota groots gevierd worden.

Toen Sarah Uthoff (De Laura Ingalls Wilder expert van Amerika) in april 2016 naar een conferentie over Laura Ingalls Wilder ging, die dit jaar het thema Voedsel uit de tijd van LIW behandelde, kreeg zij te horen dat de 150e verjaardag van Laura Ingalls Wilder volgend jaar (7-2-1867/10-2-1957) op 28 en 29 april 2017 in Sioux Falls/South Dakota wordt gevierd. En het thema is dan....... Laura Ingalls Wilder!
Oh, wat zou ik hier graag bij willen zijn.
Ik ga in ieder geval hun website volgen (zie onder). Wie weet bieden zij nog iets nieuws/leuks/interessants.

I posted a report on the wonderful experience I had at the annual South Dakota State Historical Society conference at their 2016 meeting Everybody Eats. They have a different theme every year and while I was there I got the great news.
Their theme for 2017 is going to be
Laura Ingalls Wilder!!!
I’m very excited about this because I was so impressed by their conference this year. It’s a single track event with invited speakers. I’ve got the dates blocked out on my calendar and I think you should too. Save the dates April 28-29, 2017.
They rotate which department of the South Dakota State Historical Society heads up the conference each year, so that each department only has to do about once every five years. Next year’s turn is the publishing department, the people who brought you Pioneer Girl is celebrating the year of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 150th birthday.

Almost every year the conference is held in Pierre, South Dakota. They are making an exception for 2017 moving the conference to Sioux Falls, South Dakota which should make it a lot easier for people to come in than Pierre. They have a regional airport and they are 4.5 hours driving from the Twin Cities and about 3 from Des Moines which is a full airport. Also, they offer contact hours if you’re looking for teacher credit.
We don’t have a lot of details yet and it will probably be awhile before we do, but I renewed my South Dakota State Historical Society membership to better keep track of developments and I’ll be sure to let you know.
In addition they are also going to be bringing out a new book on Laura next year the first of a trilogy. Thanks to Carrie Fleming for pointing this out.
